Award categories

The 2020 Broadband Compare Awards will showcase innovative products, services and companies across 14 different categories (companies can submit entries for as many categories as they see fit). Each category has its own set of entry criteria which we encourage you to check thoroughly before your submit your entry.

The People's Choice Award is an online award, run by Broadband Compare. Who will the people choose? If you are shortlisted in any category of the awards, you’ll automatically qualify for the Broadband Compare People's Choice Award, which opens for voting on September 1st, 2020.



NZ Service Provider of the Year 2020

The NZ Broadband Provider of the Year is the supreme award chosen by the Judges from the winners of the other Broadband Compare Awards categories, excluding the Broadband Compare People’s Choice Award.

Winners Entry criteria

Best Streaming Service Provider 2020

This award is for the best NZ streaming service, either video,  music, sports or general entertainment. Judges will be looking for speed of service, reliability, accessibility, price, value and content.

Best Wireless Service Provider 2020

This award is for the strongest overall wireless service provider in New Zealand. This category is open to NZ retail service providers  who provide  some form of communications service to NZ consumers or organisations using non-fixed technology.

Emerging Leader in Digital Technology 2020

This award is for the individual who within their first 10 years of their career has shown leadership beyond their formal role.  This might be within the organisation that they are employed, may involve creating their own organisation, providing leadership in a community organisation, or general contribution to their industry.

NZ Compare People's Choice Award 2020

This award is for the ISP who is voted the best overall service provider in NZ by the PUBLIC. The winner of this award is after a vote count combined with analysis of statistics and research collected through the NZ Compare market research platform Opinion Compare.

Best Fibre Broadband Provider 2020

This award is for the strongest overall Fibre Broadband service provider in New Zealand. This category is open to NZ ISPs and organisations who provide at least one specific Fibre broadband service to NZ consumers or organisations.

Best Bundled Plan 2020

Open to NZ ISPs and organisations who provide at least one ‘bundled’ broadband service to NZ consumers or organisations. A bundle plan must consist of a broadband connection with another core service, product or feature e.g. landline, mobile or power service.

Best Customer Support 2020

This award will be presented to the New Zealand broadband provider that best demonstrates a commitment to providing excellent customer service. The category is open to New Zealand ISPs in both the consumer and business sector.

Best Service Provider under 10,000 customers 2020

This award is for the best Internet Service Provider in New Zealand who serviced less than 10,000 connected customers in the previous 12 months.

Best Rural Service Provider 2020

This award is for the strongest overall Rural Service Provider in New Zealand. This category is open to New Zealand ISPs and organisations who provide or support broadband services specific to rural customers.

Best Value Broadband Provider 2020

This award is for an NZ Internet Service Provider who provides the best value broadband service in the previous 12 months.  Value can be determined by price, product and added benefits or service.

Best Digital Innovation 2020

This award recognised an NZ business or organisation that demonstrates the biggest innovation within the digital field within the last 12 month. Entries into this category must fit within one of three sub-categories: Best Broadband Innovation, Best Innovation in Healthcare, or Best Innovation in Education and Training.
